Intertops and BetVictor have been added to a list of unlicensed offshore betting sites that customers in the United States should avoid.
The American Gaming Association (AGA) has released a list of offshore operators to avoid ahead of the college bowl season.
The AGA believes that as legal sports betting increases in the United States, many offshore operators have failed to declare their illegal status, causing client uncertainty and perpetuating an illegal market.
It noted that “for decades, offshore gaming businesses have been the focus of federal charges for illegally targeting American consumers.”
“These sites are frequently used to support nefarious conduct and organised crime, as well as predatory behaviour that may put customers at danger of developing a gambling obsession.”
Along with Intertops and BetVictor, the AGA named 5Dimes, BetAnySports, BetDSI, BetNow, BetOnline.ag, Bookmaker, Bovada, GTbets, Heritage, MyBookie.ag, Skybook, Sportbet, SportsBetting.ag, WagerWeb, Xbet, and YouWager as some of the most common violators.
In a statement, it urged media outlets to avoid featuring dubious brands and instead focus on “legitimate, regulated sports betting operators.” To that end, the AGA released a list of 50 legal bookmakers, which included BetMGM and DraftKings.
